Animals in our sanctuary
Koen
Where does he feel most at home?
The wild turkey is a very old home-grown turkey breed whose first traces appear in the sixteenth century, barely a few decades after the discovery of the turkey in Central America by the Spanish explorers. This variety owes its name to the commune of Ronquières near Brussels where this turkey was cultivated on a large scale from the eighteenth century.
What's his favourite food?
They like to eat seeds and insects.
Fun fact
The wild turkey can still fly, while its kind in America can’t anymore.
