Ghanzi

Ghanzi was one of the many animals (39 in total) seized by the Dutch authorities from a private individual in the south of the Netherlands. All animals were poorly cared for and the accommodation was far from satisfying the housing requirements; the spaces were also wet and dirty and certainly gave no shelter against the weather.

Where does he feel most at home?

Yellow mongooses are found in the open plains with little vegetation of Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. They live in holes, sometimes these are burrows of other animals, but usually made by the yellow mongooses themselves.

What's his favourite food?

They are carnivores. In nature, yellow mongooses eat insects and other invertebrates, snakes, birds, turtles, lizards, small rodents and mammals.

Fun fact

Yellow mongooses use their tails to communicate with each other by raising or moving them back and forth.
